Alfa mounted it like that so we could see the shiny bits.

Having owned a 12-valve S and extensively driven a 24-valve LS I can say i prefer the 12-valve engine with the hot cam. It’s got even more character and the power-delivery is nearly as seamless. You’re right though, the Busso V6 -in all it’s iterations- is a very special thing. *AND* reliable and tough as nails. Real Alfa owners know this to be true.

The electrics are usually shit, but that engine, oh that engine. That Busso V6 sound.

Wanted to find Alfa 164 gif to reply.
There is no such thing.

These do sound SO good. A friend once let me drive his 164; the engine note *almost* made up for the terrifying torque steer! Lol. But hey, I’m a RWD guy so torque steer is definitely something I’m extra sensitive about.

My dream car is a mint GTV-6 with a 3.0 24v engine swap. I had an Alfetta with the 4 cylinder and that car to this day is the best handling “regular” car I have ever driven.

I can think of multiple better 6 cylinder engines in all but appearance, that get’s harder or into customization. Like this looks cool and all but i’ll take a VQ v6, for example, all day over this. In RWD cars, sounds good, makes excellent power, no timing belt, much more support, can take boost from supercharger or turbo, etc. If you disagree you are Jeremy Clarkson. I think most people just repeat things from him on this engine. Nobody knew about it before Top Gear became popular.
Want amazing sound on top of that? Get a S50/54, RB26, modded VQ, VG, VR6, NSX, S20, various classis british I6s, Ferrari V6, etc. Any revvy 6 cylinder, or one with proper intake, carbs, headers, etc sounds as good or better. Even a L28 with webers, headers, and exhaust on a 280Z sounds amazing and it looks great as well when properly taken care of especially with those DCOEs. Same for the older Triumph I6.
I could post pictures of how nice some of these look but Kinja’s picture posting works like garbage where I am.

Oh yeah a transverse FWD V6 is sooo special.

Don’t like modified things, and that engine is special mainly because it looks like that and sounds like nothing else. In the same way an Infiniti FX is probable faster than a Ferrari Mondial T, it will NEVER be as special or nice.

LOOK AT IT, THAT IS ART. HAVE YOU EVER HEARD HOW IT SOUNDS?
![]() 06/03/2015 at 17:14 |

Not if you jam it in the back of an X1/9 it’s not!

It always sounded like a pretty generic V6 to me. Only artsy thing about the entire engine are the chrome intake pipes.

I still haven’t driven one, just rode as a passenger. They are veeery cheap here, I’m 100% sure I’m going to buy one someday.

Yep, what an interesting car. You should totally snag one! I loved the interior and the steering was great. Very communicative steering feel and sharp handling. I’ve only seen 2 here in the US, the pristine white one my friend drove, and a black one I actually pass every day on my way to work. Are they still at like 3-4k for a nice one? That is SO much car for the money.
